PREVIEW: Bardavon Celebrates Pride 2025 with Two Free Queer Film Screenings

6/13 @ Bardavon Opera House and Ulster Performing Arts Center

Bardavon Presents is kicking off Pride Month in style, and on the big screen.

On Friday, June 13th at 7:30 pm, two beloved Hudson Valley venues will host free Pride film screenings, each one thoughtfully curated by local LGBTQ+ organizations to spotlight queer stories, voices, and coming-of-age moments that stick with you. No tickets, no sign-ups, just show up, grab a seat, and celebrate community and identity through film.

At the Bardavon Opera House in Poughkeepsie, the Dutchess County Pride Center presents I Saw the TV Glow (2024), a haunting and surreal tale of suburban teen angst and queer self-discovery.

When Owen stumbles onto a strange late-night TV show, he begins to unravel not just the show's mysteries, but the boundaries of his own reality. It’s dreamy, eerie, and deeply felt – a coming-of-age story that hits in unexpected ways.

Meanwhile, across the river at the Ulster Performing Arts Center in Kingston, the Hudson Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center is bringing back a cult favorite: But I’m a Cheerleader (1999).

Natasha Lyonne stars as Megan, a high school cheerleader sent to conversion therapy camp, only to discover a lot more than her parents bargained for, including herself. Campy, satirical, and iconic, it remains a queer classic for a reason.

Both screenings are made possible by the Kingston Film Foundation and aim to offer more than just a night at the movies. They’re a chance to gather, reflect, and celebrate Pride through the stories that shaped us and the ones still being written.

Admission is completely free, and no advance registration is required. Just bring yourself. And maybe a friend. Or five.
