PREVIEW: From Funk to ‘Twin Peaks,’ open your mind (and ears) to this fall’s Cooper’s Cave Composer’s Consortium

10/10/25 @ Strand Theatre, Hudson Falls

“Throw away any preconceived notions of what this concert will be and allow yourself to experience it with an open mind. I believe you will be blown away.”

This Friday, the members of Cooper’s Cave Composer’s Consortium will once again fill the Strand Theatre with their remarkable original compositions. This fall’s performance will feature 12 returning composers, including Laura Roth, Mickie Wadsworth, Eddie Jowells, and J.P. Hubbs, but also several new composers. Catherine Reid, co-founder and member of the CCCC, shared her excitement to watch the new composers perform their pieces.

“We have three new composers presenting pieces that are exceptional,” she explains, “including a majestic small ensemble piece from David Sokol, a beautiful and poetic soundscape by Mowgli Ginnetti, and a funky piece from Steve Johnson, a junior at Queensbury High School.”

While previous editions of CCCC’s performances have challenged composers to write to specific parameters, such as writing for quartets, the writers have complete freedom for this upcoming concert, aside from their typical time and instrumentation constraints. That being said, it appears that some of the composers have taken on their own challenges, creating music inspired by different texts and media, such as Anthime Miller’s Shakespearean aria. Catherine raves that, “Anthime's Lady Macbeth aria is an amazing and complicated piece with cool percussion, unusual sounds, and Laura Roth as Lady Macbeth, who has stepped into her own (through much hard work) as an honest to goodness legitimate opera singer.”

Alas, if you’re not a Shakespeare fan, fear not – the show will go from the 1590s to the 1990s, she says, as “Lucas Garrett has two really cool pieces including one in the tonal world of Angelo Badalamenti, who wrote the music for David Lynch's Twin Peaks.”

With a wide variety of pieces for audiences to enjoy, it’s the perfect show to attend, whether you’re a longtime fan of the Consortium or new to the crew.

“If you can get yourself to the theater,” Catherine concludes, “throw away any preconceived notions of what this concert will be and allow yourself to experience it with an open mind. I believe you will be blown away.”

This fall’s Cooper’s Cave Composer’s Consortium will take place on Friday, October 10th from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door – the suggested donation is $20, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
