PREVIEW: The Pipes the Pipes Are Calling!

It’s time for the annual Capital District Scottish Games held at the Altamont Fairgrounds! Hosted by the Schenectady Pipe Band and held for over 70 years, the Capital District Scottish Games are one of the largest Highland Games in the country.

The Capital District Scottish Games are a family friendly event featuring all aspects of Scottish culture including pipe band performances and competition, massed pipe band march, stage entertainment, Highland and Irish dance, Highland athletics, a Scottish breed dog show and much, much more.

This year’s entertainment will feature exciting acts from Scotland, Canada and the U.S. 

Headliner Heron Valley are an energy fueled, traditional band direct from Scotland. Their roots lie in Scottish and Irish traditional music, including traditional Scots songs and Scottish piping tunes.

Cécilia is a blend of traditional Celtic and French Canadian music created by three of Canada's finest musicians on fiddle, piano and button accordion. They will get your feet tapping and you’ll find it hard to sit still when they start playing!

Stewart’s Glen is a Canadian Celtic group from Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada, headed up by a seasoned veteran! They play a great selection of ballads, lively Celtic and Canadian songs with melodic tunes and driving melodies.

Friends Union’s performances feature incredible and energetic instrumentals and vocals of Celtic, Irish, Scottish, Old Time, Canadian and American fiddle tunes and folk music. Audiences become part of every show!

Bards of the Glen is an all-acoustic band based in New York State's Capital Region whose genres include traditional Irish, Scottish, Scandinavian, Welsh, Old English, French-Canadian and Old-Time American.

The Games also features import vendors selling beautiful wares from Scotland, Ireland and other places, food vendors, Clans and societies, and best of all a myriad of FREE activities for children. 

Children 12 and younger are free and all children’s events are free. Where else can children toss a caber, jump in a bounce house, ride a pony, explore a petting zoo, watch dog shows, hear about birds of prey and much more for FREE?

Highland Athletics! Watch men and women athletes battle it out on the athletic field in the stone put, weight throw, hammer throw, sheaf toss and the ever-popular caber toss.

Bands, pipers, dancers, vendors, beer, food, and activities for the whole family - what more could you want?
