Did everyone have a good august? Don’t all answer at once. For me, the month felt kind of moody. A little sunshine, a little chill in the air… it couldn’t make up its mind. Which is why it’s really great there was something for everyone coming out of the local music scene. Check out some of them hot singles, below. That’s what you’re all here for, after all.

Reviews by TJ Foster

Buggy Jive - “This Will Never Be On The Radio”

Are you really a fan of 518 music if you don't listen to Buggy Jive? It's debatable. The soul-rocker's cheekily-named new single is the first track off his highly-anticipated upcoming album, ICARUS ASCENDING, and per usual, it's pure gold. Treat yourself with a listen, anywhere but the radio.

Raisi K. - “TGIF TGIF TGIF”

No, this isn't about '90s sitcoms, but it does go just as hard. Definitely more NSFW than whatever ABC was showing back then, but worth cranking up and testing the limits of your car's subwoofer with.

Ferriday - “Sounds Coming Down”

"Sounds Coming Down" is the first track off Ferriday's new record, Wellspring, and it's a gut-punch of an indie-infused punk tune. And clocking in at under two minutes, you really have no excuse not to check it out. I promise it'll be a better use of time than the four TikToks you might watch instead.

Laveda - “Strawberry”

Laveda are one of those bands that outgrew the 518 scene, yet still feel like ours. The shoegaze masters turn up the fuzz on new single "Strawberry", which encompasses all of their best features in a neat package. All that's missing is a little rhubarb.

Black Tongue Reverend - “When the Reverend Comes to Town”

You can never go wrong with a bona fide, rock n' roll riff, and that's exactly what kicks off Black Tongue Reverend's newest tune. The trio turn things up to 11 here and don't ever come down - for that, we are grateful the reverend came to town.

Moe Greene & The Dive Bar Juicers - “She’s a Swinger”

We've featured their singles before in this column, and "She's A Swinger" fits nicely within the rest of their catalog thus far. It's no-frills rock and roll, perfect for a night out at the bar (but you can also listen to it at home if that's not your vibe).

Rachel Camilli - “tell me”

Rachel is a newcomer on the singer/songwriter scene here, and based on "tell me", she's destined to become well-known around these parts pretty quickly. At just 19 years old, she's crafted a song that sounds equal parts bedroom demo and lo-fi, mid-album Lana Del Rey. Better keep an eye on this one; you heard it here first.

Slug Chapel - “You Are My Ray of Fucking Sunshine”

The song title is enough to get you intrigued, don't lie. Slug Chapel is the solo project from Brett Petersen of Raziel's Tree, and "You Are My Ray of Fucking Sunshine" features a gritty downtuned guitar over some rather DIY percussion (is that some good old fashioned desk slapping I hear?). Selfishly, I wish it kicked in at some point with a wall of sound, but the grunge-meets-folk thing works surprisingly well regardless.

Dan Carr and the Cure for Asthma - “Love Isn’t Always a Draw”

Not much to say about this one that wasn’t already said in Jonathan Patrizio’s full album review from our September print issue. Tl;dr: this single is off a sprawling 20-song record with no filler. Which basically means this song is good. Really good. And so are all the others. Just check it out, already. (And guys, send me that cure for asthma… it’s almost Fall for fuck’s sake)
