“Weakened Friends was a bright burst of light and energy that is always welcome in the Capital Region.“

On the checkered, neon floor of Troy’s iconic No Fun, dozens of people gathered to see Weakened Friends kick off their most recent tour. Named after their recent album, the “Feels Like Hell” show felt like anything but.

The show jumpstarted with a set from local grunge trio Candy Ambulance. Singer and guitarist Caitlin Barker pulled in attention with heavy, inviting vocals reminiscent of 1990s’ Hole. The group had an impressive presence, preparing the weekday crowd for Weakened Friends.

From Portland, Maine, trio Weakened Friends rolled onto stage with a bundle of energy and excitement that both fed off and fed into the vibes of the crowd. Vocalist Sonia Sturino took a moment to connect the room, reminding everyone present the meaning of getting on stage and performing. Grabbing the mic, Sturino shouted, “We’re all here, we’re all different, and we’re all enjoying something.”

Weakened Friends recently celebrated the release of their newest album, Feels LIke Hell. Being the first show of a tour with the same name, No Fun was treated to the live debut of multiple songs. Despite the album having only been out for less than a week, people sang along and danced happily. During some of the more iconic songs, the band dropped out and it was just the crowd singing loudly and as a single collective. Sturino praised the No Fun crowd for their energy and participation, speaking for the whole band when she said that smaller cities were their favorites to play. Overall, Weakened Friends’ set was a bright burst of light and energy that is always welcome in the Capital Region.
