“The Celtic jangle boyband offers an even livelier show these days, as they jam-pack sets with songs spanning their three full-length albums that explore topics of self-indulgence, grief, and other oftentimes heavy topics, accompanied by an encouraging instrumental that suggests you just have to keep pushing on.”
What better way to kick off a North American tour than playing the first show at a venue that feels like a match made in heaven? That’s exactly what London-based band The Tubs feels is the case as they prepare to hit the Tubby’s stage in Kingston on October 15 to a sold-out crowd.
While they’ve toured the States before, the stars seemed to have aligned perfectly this time around, and not just because they’ve managed to find a venue so aptly named for their first time playing Kingston. This time, they’ve also recently released their third album, Hard Life.
“It’s our first tour supporting an album that’s out on a bigger label, Merge,” explained The Tubs lead Owen Williams. “So I think it’s a slightly bigger scale than we’ve done before.”
He feels they’ve ironed out the kinks by now and are looking forward to touring the United States for the fourth time. Previously, being able to perform overseas felt like a novelty, but now, The Tubs are more seasoned.
“I think we’re a bit more road-hardened and professional now, but not too professional,” Williams acknowledged.
The group has come a long way since their DIY days, but they still find themselves tapping into that skill set, allowing Williams and the band’s bassist, Max Warren, to have the know-how to fulfill the typical role of front-of-house organizer. Even with all the logistical headaches that come with preparing a tour across the pond, the recognition they receive once they get to the other side makes it worthwhile. Williams says they feel lucky to be as popular in the U.S. as they are in the U.K.
“We’re probably over [in the U.S.] more than a lot of U.K. bands, and it feels like a bit of a second home for us,” he shared.

Coming off of their recent U.K. tour, a handful of songs off their latest record have already become mainstays in the setlists. Some U.K. fans have already quickly learned the new tracks, singing along in the crowd of sold-out shows. Now, The Tubs are hoping American fans can rise to the occasion just the same.
