PREVIEW: Proctors To Host Second Annual Sci-Fi FilmFest

Capital Region cinephiles are in for a treat this weekend as Proctors gears up to host the 2nd Annual Sci-Fi Schenectady FilmFest. Starting Friday, September 18, the event spans three days and will feature 15 films that blend science, fantasy and science fiction.
The three-day festival, presented by Film Schenectady, in collaboration with Discover Schenectady, will be held at the GE Theatre in Proctors, and will feature “local and international filmmakers, panel presentations, talkbacks, parties and more.”
Local filmmakers that are part of the event’s spotlight on Capital Region filmmakers, include Ryan Jenkins and Spencer Sherry with Las Hadas de la Sombra, father-daughter creative team Johnnie and Dara Semerad with Deep Space Degenerates and Jermaine Wells, director and actor of Stuck 2Gether.
Those in attendance will get the opportunity to hear directly from people involved in the filmmaking process as several filmmakers will participate in screenings and talkbacks.
Weekend highlights include:
- Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die, followed by an interview with the screenwriter
- The beloved 1987 fantasy adventure, The Princess Bride
- The Conjuring: Last Rites, followed by a discussion of the blockbuster horror franchise
- Fritz Lang’s groundbreaking silent science-fiction classic, Metropolis, presented with a live musical score by Order of the Illusive
Metroland Now’s own Andy Scullin will be hosting the trivia segment during the Conjuring Universe portion of the event.
Full weekend passes are $60 and include access to film festival screenings, panel presentations, talkbacks, parties and more. Individual film screening events are available for $15.
