“I wanted to bring them joy in this way, and anyone who's touched it in any way, hopefully gets this little sparkle blast of goodness.”

Interpretation varies from mind’s eye to mind’s eye, but how does it vary from ears to eyes? On November 6, from 6:00–8:30 p.m. moon/stone offers a unique opportunity for observers to experience art in a multimedia format, featuring 13 paintings energetically paired with 13 songs by Kim Tateo.

Kim Tateo is a painter and musician who aims to express emotions and feelings that are difficult to put into words. She does so by creating abstract art with no plan in mind, allowing her emotions and environment to guide the painting and artistic process. This original talent resulted in the artist receiving a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) toward sharing her vision with the public.

“I paint abstractly and intuitively; I don't plan my paintings,” explains Tateo. “Sometimes it would be easier if I did, because I make these puzzles. I'm like, ‘Why don't I make my life easy?’ It's just, I've never worked that way. I feel like it's all sort of energy moving.”

This particular event was inspired by Tateo revisiting her music after three years with the desire to create a unique event that uplifted both mediums. But, even before that, Tateo says art has always surrounded her life.

“When I was growing up, my mom was in hospitals a lot. And I would look at the art, and it's not like there were soundtracks that I would listen to, but I was thinking, what if my paintings could be in a hospital, and you could scan a QR Code, and then you could listen to the song?”

Tateo describes her process pairing her paintings with each song, taking each one as it came. “I was starting to see what would be what, but the paintings themselves are abstract,” she says. While she has her own pairings, she knows each audience member will come to the art with their own ideas. “You can take any interpretation, and people will always say they see different things.”

While each audience member has their own interpretation, that doesn’t mean Tateo wants to know.

“Don't tell me what you see! Just enjoy them because otherwise then I'll start seeing all these different things. And I just want people to take the paintings and the songs and have them be whatever they are for them.”

The event will feature 13 original paintings that correspond to 13 of Tateo’s songs off her upcoming album that comes out November 11. The hope in marrying the two artforms is to allow observers a chance to experience her art through two different interpretations, finding a way to combine her passion for painting and music.

“I wanted to bring [viewers] joy in this way, and anyone who's touched it in any way, hopefully gets this little sparkle blast of goodness.”

Guests will be able to hear the visionary songs through a QR Code while immersed in the visual media of the painting (so bring headphones!).  Experience a delight for the eyes and ears whilst ensconced in the ephemeral world of the artist.

The event will end with a live concert where Tateo and some of her collaborators will be performing the album for the audience.
