PREVIEW: Capital Region Holiday Wrap-Up: Music

Hear ye, hear ye: Metroland Now is calling all elves, reindeer, and candy cane-crazed Capital Region holiday lovers to prepare with us for this year’s festivities! Regardless of what you celebrate this holiday season, the Capital Region is abundant with opportunities to celebrate with your loved ones, as well as share this special season with your neighbors and community members.

And what better way than to take in some live music together? Naturally, there are plenty of holiday-themed concerts happening throughout the month of December, featuring local bands as well as touring acts. Let’s get into it.

  • Hudson Valley-based Slambovian Circus of Dreams will be bringing their psychedelic, Americana sound to Proctor’s on December 6 at 7:30 p.m.

  • On December 7, The Albany Symphony Orchestra will bring their Magic of the Season to the Palace Theatre, which is full of joyful holiday music, family fun, and festive surprises.

  • To commemorate the closing of their tap room, Singlecut North in Clifton Park will be hosting their final Holiday Hootenanny on December 13 at 4 p.m. with Sad Dads, The Sugar Hold, E.R.I.E., Durieux, ShortWave RadioBand and The Battenkillers, if you’re looking for something a bit louder.

  • Also on December 13, No One You Know, WEXT Radio, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevetion (AFSP) present Jingle Bell Rock, with 100% of ticket proceeds going to AFSP. Featuring Shannon Tehya, The Story Boys, Keegan James, and DJ Fearless at Lark Hall, the night will be a combination of several NOYK hit theme-nights, from Femininomenom to emo to Christmas.

  • For yet another “Holiday Hootenanny”, look no further than Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on December 17 where the Grammy Award-winning Old Crow Medicine Show will bring a spirited night of foot-stomping Christmas classics to Troy.

  • An ever-impressive classic, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will be performing their Ghosts of Christmas Eve show at MVP Arena on December 17 at 7 p.m.

  • Once again, “It’s A Jazzy Christmas” will return to Proctor’s for a night full of laughter and holiday covers on December 20, with an additional performance at Universal Preservation Hall on December 19.

  • Also at Lark Hall will be Greg Bell’s Halliday Ball on December 20, a jam-filled night with Conehead Buddha, Moon Boot Lover, Ominous Seapods, and Dr. Jah and The Love Prophets.

  • On New Year’s Eve in Albany, the ever-witty and dynamic Noël and Cole invite you to ring in the new year with A Marvelous Party with Coward and Porter over at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, which is sure to delight and amuse.

  • And finally, also on New Year’s Eve, Discover Saratoga presents their annual New Year’s Eve bash with an incredible slate of performers that includes The Allman Betts Band, Ally the Piper, Glass Pony and more (at the Saratoga Springs City Center), Nicotine Dolls and The Belle Curves (at UPH), and Reese Fulmer (at Caffe Lena).

Of course, there’s no way this encompasses every festive concert that’s happening over the next month, so be sure to let us know what we may have missed and what you’ll be catching this holiday season over on our socials!
