PREVIEW: Old No. 1 at 50 — local singer-songwriters Celebrate the Spirit of Guy Clark at Caffè LEna

09/13 @ Caffè Lena, Saratoga

On Saturday, September 13, a select group of Capital Region singers and songwriters will gather at Saratoga’s Caffè Lena to pay tribute to legendary songwriter, Guy Clark.

This unique benefit concert, presented by the Guy Clark Family Foundation, coincides with the 50th anniversary of Guy Clark’s 1975 release Old No. 1, an album widely praised by the press as one of the most influential of its time. Songs from Old No. 1 like “L.A. Freeway,” “Desperados Waiting for a Train,” “Texas 1947,” and “That Old Time Feeling” became instant classics and went on to inspire generations of songwriters. Local musicians Michael Eck, Meghan Cary, Adam Monaco, Buddy Mondlock, Jack Murray, Rees Shad, and Carole Wise will perform Old No.1 in its entirety, followed by a set in which each performer shares an original song.

The Guy Clark Family Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2024 by Guy’s only grandchildren, Dylan and Ellie, is dedicated to honoring his memory and sustaining his lifelong passion to support fellow songwriters. The foundation carries on that passion by offering creative and professional workshops for songwriters, covering many aspects of the music industry including writing, recording, and performing. They also provide songwriters with a platform to distribute their music through the foundation’s affiliated record label, Truly Handmade Records.

This special evening of music begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7:30. Tickets are available for purchase here, and the concert will also be streamed live on Caffè Lena TV.
