PREVIEW: BEX Salon Holds Food Drive to Benefit Sycamore Collaborative

Through 02/28 @ Bex Salon, 234 Union Street, Schenectady

“...oftentimes people will donate to local charities around the holidays, leaving resources depleted by January and February…”

BEX Salon is currently holding a food drive to benefit Schenectady’s Sycamore Collaborative. Sycamore Collaborative, formally Schenectady Inner City Ministry or SICM, is a food pantry that has been providing the citizens of Schenectady with healthy food for over 50 years. The collaborative serves over six thousand Schenectady residents every year with dignity through community outreach.

Rebecca (Bex) Cleary, the owner of BEX Salon, spoke about how oftentimes people will donate to local charities around the holidays, leaving resources depleted by January and February, notoriously difficult months in the winter. Keeping that in mind, the salon has come together to run a food drive to benefit the local community. Partnering with Sycamore Collaborative proved to be the perfect solution.

To incentivize donations, the stylists are generously offering raffle prizes to be chosen at the end of February. The prizes are: A 20-minute scalp massage and blow out (typically $75), a gift set worth $200, or a cut-and-color session with Bex herself and the color specialist, Michael ($200 value).

BEX Salon is collecting canned items (fruit, vegetables, beans, soup), other shelf-stable goods (pasta, pasta sauce, peanut butter, jelly, rice, oats, boxed mac and cheese), toiletries (soap, toothpaste, menstrual products and the like), and they will pass along cash donations as well. One dollar or one item is equivalent to one raffle ticket, five items or five dollars is worth ten tickets, and ten items or 20 dollars is 25 raffle tickets. Bring your donations to their apprentice, Ella, at the door and be sure to put your name on the sign-up sheet! Winners will be randomly selected and contacted through your preferred information on the sign-up sheet. Donate, help the local community, and look fabulous!

The food drive at BEX will run until the end of February. Learn more about Sycamore Collaborative by visiting sycamorecollab.org and check out BEX Salon at bexsalon.com and @bex_salon on Instagram.
