PREVIEW: AFCDF Announces Fundraiser for Injured Albany Fire Battalion Chief and DGS Supervisor
On August 4, 2026, an Albany Fire Department Battalion Chief, Wayne Brennan, and a city Department of General Services supervisor, Anthony Hughes, were severely burned in a fuel pump explosion at the Albany DGS headquarters on Connors Boulevard. Both men suffered serious second and third-degree burns while attempting to address a leaking pump. Both men are currently recovering in specialized burn centers.
Both men face a long road to recovery. The Albany Firefighters Cancer and Disability, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Albany firefighters, their families, and the greater Capital District community, plans to have a fundraiser that will aid their families with travel, lodging, meals, and other expenses associated with extended medical treatment. The Foundation will also help provide peace of mind by assisting with the upkeep and maintenance of their homes and properties while they and their families focus on recovery.
AFCDF is partnering with Fidens Brewing Company, located at 897 Broadway in Albany, for a fundraiser on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The event will feature raffles, a silent auction, live music, and an opportunity for the community to come together in support of two of its own. We will also have the Sheriff’s portable rock climbing wall! A free shuttle provided by CDTA from Albany Parking Authority Quackenbush Garage.
The event will be emceed by Metroland’s Erin Harkes and music will be provided by Harkes’ band as well as the Albany Rock Pit band with other special guests!
AFCDF is asking the Capital District community to join us, show their support, raise a pint, and help raise funds for these men and their families. Every donation and show of support can make an immediate difference as these families navigate the difficult road ahead.
