This past Friday, the Albany Capital Center revealed their new mural entitled “The City We Imagine,” by local artist Cara Hanley.

Hanley, who spent approximately a month on the project, said on Instagram, “I love the idea of finding beauty and magic in the scenes we pass every day.”

The first of two mural projects — and the Albany Capital Center’s first exterior mural —  “The City We Imagine” was created with the Albany Convention Center Authority and Albany Center Gallery. The 12.5-by-9 foot mural is located in the enclosed walkway on level W2 of the Albany Capital Center, facing south.

“This collaboration reflects the Authority’s continued commitment to supporting the local arts community and ensuring the Capital Center feels welcoming, memorable and distinctly Albany,” said Monica Kurzejeski, executive director and CEO of the Albany Convention Center Authority.

Tony Iadicicco, executive director of the Albany Center Gallery, said Hanley’s mural “will be a great addition to the dozens of murals we’ve curated and added to the community.” He praised “The City We Imagine” for how it embodies the importance of storytelling, connection, and a creative Albany for all.

Hanley said the mural “celebrates Albany as a living narrative shaped by its people and invites viewers to see themselves in its landscape,” and thanked Iadicicco for his help in painting it.

General manager of Albany Capital Center, Shannon Licygiewicz added, “This mural firmly anchors the Albany Capital Center in the character and culture of our community.”

The second mural at Albany Capital Center will be completed in early 2026. More details to come.
