NEWS: Metroland Now Launches Metroland Radio to Amplify the Voice of the 518 Music & Arts Community

Metroland Now is expanding its mission of supporting local arts, entertainment, nonprofits, and small businesses with the official launch of Metroland Radio, a new streaming radio station dedicated entirely to music and content created in and around New York’s Capital Region.

While Metroland Now has been growing its family of podcasts and engaging in digital media creation, the organization believes radio still holds a unique and powerful place in music and the community.

The idea for Metroland Radio came when Editor-in-Chief Erin Harkes approached Music Relations & Content Manager Andy Scullin about bringing local radio into the fold. For Scullin, who has more than 20 years of radio experience, the answer was immediate.

“I began working in radio in 1992 as a DJ, and over the next couple of decades I worked at various stations and roles, including as host of the popular local music show on WEQX, EQXposure,” said Scullin. “Hosting EQXposure in the early 2000s led to my discovery and love of the Albany-area music scene, and ultimately my place in that scene today.”

Scullin currently hosts the Unsigned518 podcast, as well as produces Weekend Spotlight 518 with host BJ Schwinghammer, and has played a key role across the Metroland podcast network. He will oversee the radio station’s programming and development moving forward.

“I've worked really hard at making the station come to life and it’s turning into something really cool — cooler than I even imagined,” Scullin said.

Metroland Radio will feature artist-submitted music from across the 518 and the surrounding region, original radio shows hosted by Metroland staff, and podcast programming from their growing podcast family, including Erin Harkes’ “Mistress of None,” Angelina Valente’s “Too Normal People,” and Corey Dempsey’s latest, “Oh, Reel Original.” You can also expect content featuring special guest hosts and live show coverage.

Following a soft launch, the station’s official debut will coincide with 518 Day on May 18, 2026, celebrating the culture and creativity of the Capital Region.

Listeners will be able to stream Metroland Radio through the Live365 app and directly via the Metroland Now website.

“I hope that Metroland Radio gives artists in the local scene encouragement to continue pursuing their craft,” said Scullin. “Hearing their music on the station may be the spark that keeps them going. Much like the local stations already supporting local musicians, I hope Metroland Radio can work alongside them to help elevate the entire scene.”

Bands and artists interested in submitting music can contact Andy Scullin at Andy@themetroland.com.
