Albany had itself a rare sighting the other night — the legendary Saxsquatch. Dean Mitchell, the man behind the hairy “mask,” is known for both his original tunes and covers on saxophone, as well as his energetic shows and production.
Saxsquatch is a party animal and the party was happening at Empire Live on March 1. Father Figure, an Albany native DJ group, got things going with a dance set that uniquely blended elements of hip hop with elements of jam band. This was punctuated with their set closer: a reimagined cover of “No Rain” by Blind Melon. Then, the mythical sax-playing creature of the woods took the stage. Saxsquatch effortlessly blends original dance music with well known covers — songs like “Better Off Along” by Alice Deejay. Saxquatch plays the familiar melodies on the sax while encouraging those who are dancing bring the party to the front. Definitely go see Saxquatch if he comes through your town and if you're lucky, you might also spot Saxsquatch’s partner, "Thiccfoote." To quote the big man, "I'll be squatchin' you."
