Sunday night, musicians, photographers, promoters and fans flooded into Schenectady’s historic Proctors Theatre to celebrate the music of the Capital Region. The seventh annual Eddies Awards honored nearly 200 members of the local music scene across an impressive 34 categories!
The event was rife with enthusiasm, as audience members hooted and hollered for nominees and winners alike—it was this display of camaraderie that perfectly demonstrated what sets the 518 apart from other local music scenes. We would also be remiss if we didn’t point out that the night ran smoother than ever before, with performances segueing seamlessly into award presentations thanks to the decision to have the performers themselves hand out some of the awards. Those impressive performers included Margo Macero, Shannon Tehya, Zorbas Trio, GreatMastr, Blase DeBris and Camtron5000.
Midway through the night, Proctors Collaborative President Jean Leonard also gave a timely, impassioned speech about ensuring safety for women on stage, off stage and backstage. It was a stark reminder that, although we’ve come a long way, there’s still much to be done.
Metroland Now was proud to take home the award for Arts Publication of the Year. It’s an honor we are truly grateful for, and we could not have achieved such a thing without the amazing staff of writers and photographers behind us – not to mention the endless sea of talent we have the pleasure of covering each and every day! We are proud to be here and thrilled for our fellow winners. We are going to be rolling out our congratulations throughout the week, but in the meantime, here’s the list of winners from the evening!
