“We want families in the Capital Region to feel welcome and encouraged to explore art, history, and culture together…”
Throughout July and August, the Albany Institute of History and Art is offering free admission for children 12 and under, along with one accompanying adult caregiver. This exciting initiative is made possible through the generous support of the Carl E. Touhey Foundation.
In addition to free admission, the museum is expanding its hands-on programming to offer engaging, educational experiences for visitors of all ages. Activities will include art-making workshops, family gallery tours, story times, and a variety of in-gallery experiences designed to spark creativity and imagination.
“This initiative is about reducing barriers to access,” says Kayla Carlsen, Executive Director of the Albany Institute. “We want families in the Capital Region to feel welcome and encouraged to explore art, history, and culture together—without cost being a concern.”
Taking the program a step further, the Institute will partner with local school districts, regional camps, and community centers to broaden access and introduce more families to the museum’s wide range of activities, exhibitions, and collections.
“Offering free admission and programs outside of the classroom or field trip settings is critical to serving school age children and family audiences, especially during the summer months,” says Megan Brown, Director of Education at the Albany Institute.
Free admission and programs are available through August 31, 2025, during regular museum hours. Visit albanyinstitute.org for more details, including the calendar of events and programs.
